Exemplary trauma medicine throughout Europe
The BG clinics provide a range of services aligned with the needs of the accident insurance institutions, e.g. in the field of vocational assistance and social services, the assessment system as well as the intensive ongoing treatment and aftercare. They focus not only on reducing inpatient costs - which may be associated with a negative impact on quality and in the process increase costs - but also assist accident insurance institutions in their goal of reducing the overall cost of a rehabilitation case. This can, for example, be achieved by reducing the duration of incapacity for work.
However, financial mismanagement in the scope of general hospital financing law has never and will never be a reason for the BG clinics "removing" patients at risk. In this context, they will take on a function as a safety net and thus, in addition to the qualitative aspect, the importance of BG clinics will increase in quantitative terms.
With the high demands they place on the range and quality of rehabilitative services, the BG clinics have made a significant contribution to the current state of trauma medicine in Germany, which is exemplary throughout Europe, and participated in the development and implementation of standards set by professional associations for injury type procedures. They are indispensable in the establishment and development of special treatment approaches and care structures as well as for trauma medicine research and the resulting medical advances. As centres of maximum care they are also available for particularly complicated or complex forms of treatment, as well as for complications, revisions or corrective surgery.
Beyond the curative activities, the BG clinics perform numerous other tasks for the professional associations, in particular in the areas of consulting, training, quality assurance and other expert activities.
